If you’re looking for a book that’s a bit darker than usual, with morally grey characters and a plot that hooks you from the very first chapter, this is the one. This is a dark romance, but it also has a surprisingly funny side that makes it even more addictive.
When I say it had me hooked from the very beginning, I’m not exaggerating—I finished it in a day. And I think I speak for everyone when I say we need more of Josh and Ally.
Get the book:
Ally is a burned-out ER nurse. Her life revolves around work and leaves very little room for anything else—let’s be honest, there’s nothing particularly interesting going on in her life, and you can really feel that emptiness—until Josh shows up, a tech genius with a somewhat dark past.
Josh develops an intense obsession with Ally, inserting himself into her life in ways that feel both unsettling and strangely captivating. As their lives become more intertwined, secrets start to surface and the line between protection and control begins to blur. The romance in this book isn’t sweet or tender—it’s intense, chaotic, and obsessive… and that’s exactly what makes it so addictive.
Tropes:
Dark Romance
Morally Grey Characters
Obsession
Possessive Love
Stalker Vibes
Protector vs Possessive
He Falls First
Slow Burn
Dark Humor

Trigger warning:
Since this is a dark romance, I want to leave a few trigger warnings so you know what to expect before going into it.
Explicit sexual content, BDSM (knife play, breath play, fear play), stalking, obsession, home invasion, hacking/surveillance, dubious consent, possessiveness/control, violence, death, off-page rape, domestic & child abuse (past), mental health themes, serial killer references, mass violence.
If you’re looking to get into dark romance, I think this is the perfect book to start with. It’s not the darkest out there, but it still gives you a really good idea of what the genre is like. Its humor makes the story feel lighter at times, so it doesn’t feel as heavy as other dark romance books, even though it still explores some intense themes.
