If you enjoy shows like Criminal Minds, this series is definitely for you.

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes combines mystery, tension, and a group of teenagers with unique abilities. Together, they work on cold cases for the FBI, but the closer they get to the truth, the more dangerous everything becomes.

The The Naturals series follows Cassie, an orphan teenager with a special ability to read people through the way they speak and behave. She is recruited to be part of a secret FBI program, alongside a group of other teenagers, each with their own unique skill: detecting lies, profiling, reading emotions…

Together, they work on criminal cases the FBI hasn’t been able to decipher.

But Cassie’s past has a deeper connection to an unsolved crime than she realizes, and the more cases they solve, the closer she gets to uncovering the truth.

Reading order

Book one: The naturals

The first book in the series follows how Cassie gets recruited into the program and begins adjusting to her new life, working secretly for the FBI. But when a case begins to mirror her past, what once felt like an opportunity to develop her abilities to their full potential quickly turns into something much darker.

This book will have you hooked from the very first chapter, making you want to solve the crime alongside the characters as the story unfolds.

Book two: Killer instinct

In my personal opinion, this is the best book of the series!

Killer Instinct takes everything from the first book and raises the stakes. The cases become darker and more dangerous, and the pressure on the team starts to grow. As they face a new killer, the lines between right and wrong begin to blur, forcing them to confront parts of themselves they would rather ignore.

This book feels more intense and unsettling, keeping you on edge the entire time and making it even harder to put the series down.

Book three: All in

The third book in the The Naturals series gets more personal, exploring the characters and their pasts in greater depth. We see more of Michael’s emotional struggles, Lia’s secrets, and Sloane’s family dynamic, while Dean continues to play a key role within the group.

We also learn important details about Cassie’s past that make it impossible to put the book down.

This book stands out for its emotional intensity, giving more depth to each character while still keeping the mystery gripping and fast-paced.

Book four: Bad blood

The final book in the The Naturals series made me cry like never before. It starts off intense, and the ending does not disappoint. All the questions we’ve had throughout the previous books are finally answered.

While the story is deeply connected to Cassie’s past, we also see Dean, Michael, Lia, and Sloane play crucial roles in uncovering the truth.

The ending is something you’ll never see coming, full of twists and tension, and it brings the story to a close in a way that makes it a perfect finale for the series.

This series really pulled me in and did not let go. Even after I finished the books, it was all I could think about, and it made me wish there were more so I could keep reading.

The characters are all unique in their own way, and you end up getting attached to every single one of them.

I truly recommend these books if you love anything related to crime, psychological tension, complex characters, and of course, a touch of romance.
